Transition to Fall (2016 Update)

by Megan Schwarz | September 09, 2016 | 1 Comment

Chilly mornings, vivid blue skies, colorful leaves – fall is definitely here. And changing seasons typically brings a change in our skin. Oily skin may suddenly feel tight, blemishes may be subsiding or back with a vengeance, lips might become parched. No worries. You do not need to overhaul your entire ritual. A few tweaks here and there will have that dewy glow back in no time!

(1) Switch to a hydrating, soothing cleanser.

Foaming gel cleansers just don’t cut it as the air becomes increasingly dry. My advice - shelve your shine-reducing summer cleanser in favor of a lush, cushy, cream cleanser. Use your cream cleanser in the morning to whisk away sweat and cellular residue and deep cleanse skin at night with a beautiful balm cleanser.

Seed to Serum Picks:
Jacqueline Evans Castile Cream Cleanser
Laurel Facial Cleanser: Normal/Dry
The Little Alchemist Pineapple, Geranium, & Lime Cleansing Milk
Kypris Cleanser Concentrate
de Mamiel Restorative Cleansing Balm

(2) Add a hydrating serum.

I offered this tip in a recent post, but it’s worth repeating. Mix a few pumps of hydrating serum into your favorite facial oil to up the moisture ante. You can apply your hydrating serum first followed by your facial oil, but I prefer the convenience of combining the two!

Seed to Serum Picks:
Kypris Antioxidant Dew
MOSS Healing Dew Anti-Inflammatory Repairing Seruma
Maya Chia The Super Couple

(3) One word – BALM!

If your current oil isn’t cutting it in the moisture department, then it’s time to seek out a buttery balm. Use the balm in place of your favorite face oil OR if you are extremely moisture deprived, smooth a light layer of balm over your face oil. There are lovely balm options for both day and night, but if you prefer a matte daytime look then reserve the balm for nighttime use!

Seed to Serum Picks:
Laurel Facial Balm: Transform Daily
Mahalo Balm
MOSS Ceremony Beauty Balm
CAMP Filthy Rich Face Cream
• Province Apothecary Protecting + Restoring Face Balm

(4) Seek out soothing ingredients.

Changing seasons can lead to dry, itchy skin so look for soothing ingredients in your skin care. Ease inflammation with ingredients like chamomile, calendula, and olive oil. Soothing ingredients abound in everything from serums to cleansers to moisturizers so creating a calming ritual could not be simpler!

Seed to Serum Picks:
AS.AP #5 Cleansing Oil
• Mahalo The Rare Indigo
One Love Organics Oh Mega Calming Chia Oil
de Mamiel Autumn Facial Oil
Jacqueline Evans Damask Rose Hydrating Mist

Ah, skincare woes solved. Now go enjoy those brisk breezes!
