Skin Food: Papaya Seed Oil

by Megan Schwarz | August 04, 2015 | 4 Comments

Oh the many benefits of papaya! Papaya seed oil is rich in vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and an enzyme called papain. Papain acts as an exfoliant, gently dissolving dead skin cells and sebum. Unlike typical chemical exfoliants, papain reduces brown spots, lightens post-acne marks, and brightens all over without any unwanted irritation. Pretty remarkable. In addition, papaya seed oil contains anti-inflammatory compounds that calm and soothe. So if you were still unsure about letting papaya anywhere near your sensitive skin, rest assured that papaya means you no harm. (Although it is active so please perform a patch test if you are concerned!) Even more impressive, papaya seed oil contains antibacterial and antibiotic properties that have been shown to treat rashes and minor skin irritations.

So it should come as no surprise that papaya seed oil is popping up EVERYWHERE! Here are a few Seed to Serum favorites:

Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil - This cleansing oil is a game changer. It thoroughly removes sunscreen, makeup, and city grime with ease. But what makes this cleansing oil extra special is the addition of exfoliating papaya. How many cleansing oils can you name that deep clean, hydrate, and exfoliate? Very few. So if you are new to oil cleansing, this is the perfect place to start!

Odacite A Summer in Hossegor - This ultra-luxe face oil contains only four unique, intriguing ingredients: wild carrot seed oil, blueberry seed oil, papaya seed oil, and buriti fruit oil. The impressive levels of vitamins, enzymes and antioxidants contained in these precious oils will iron out the toughest wrinkles and fade even the most stubborn spots. Apply this serum at night and awake to softer, brighter skin. (Just looking for a little boost? Add a few drops of Pa+G to your current moisturizer to reap all of the benefits of papaya!)

MOSS Unveiling Fluid – This anti-aging, anti-acne wonder serum combines papaya seed oil with enzyme-rich green coffee bean oil to increase its skin brightening power. And the addition of mandarin, neroli, and cypress essential oils yields the most perfect not-too-sweet citrusy scent. But none of this even compares to the delicious, velvety texture. So while you could mix a few drops of Unveiling Fluid into your current serums and moisturizers, I advise applying this serum alone!

And for those interested in a simple one ingredient DIY mask – simply mash up the papaya flesh and apply it over skin for 15-20 minutes!

most all the papayas sold in the USA are genetically modified…so one of the dna signatutures is roundup and another is blowing up the pest from the inside out. Can rarely find organic papayas. good luck with this

Can the papaya seed oil that can be bought at the store be applied directly to the skin as a night moisturizer?
