Know Your Toner: HYDRATE

by Megan Schwarz | January 16, 2015 | 0 Comments

Toners are inherently confusing. It’s difficult to know when to use a toner, why to use a toner, or even how to use a toner. Well let’s clear up that confusion. For the whens, whys, and hows, check out our article on Toners in the Pillars of Skincare section of our library. Okay, know you’ve figured out that toners hydrate, balance, brighten, and soothe. So which toner is right for you? That’s what this post is all about. Over the next three weeks, I will break down toners into three categories – toners that hydrate, toners that balance, and toners that calm – to help you find the option that is perfect for you!

Because it’s winter, let’s start with those toners that add much-needed moisture to our dry, itchy complexions!

AS.AP Sussex Rose Aromatic Water
Simple, gorgeous rose water makes an incredible toner. It moisturizes, cools, refreshes, and tones. Plus, the scent is absolutely enchanting (especially AS.AP’s rendition – I have never smelled rose water quite this complex, robust, and downright charming). There’s a reason Cleopatra was such a big fan! For all of you minimalists out there, this is my pick for you.

The Little Alchemist Rose Antioxidant Hydrate Mist
This toner features fantastically hydrating rose water, alongside soothing aloe. Additionally, this mist promises to brighten and lighten the skin with impressive actives, including apple extract, bearberry extract, licorice extract, and bilberry leaf extract. This toner is the perfect option for those plagued by dark spots and uneven skin tone.

Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin D Mist
Featuring Alpine rose extract, this toner was designed to provide long-lasting hydration in the face of dreaded elemental dryness. In addition, it contains shitake mushroom to reduce redness and irritation that often accompanies dry skin. I think of this toner as the perfect office companion – mist throughout the day to combat dry office air!

Laurel Facial Elixir: Normal/Mature
Laurel’s toner is skin food. It contains 20 active ingredients that attract and hold moisture to the skin, while soothing, restoring, healing, and deeply nourishing the skin. Featuring a unique combination of hydrosols, herbal extracts, and essential oils, Laurel’s facial elixir is a one-stop hydration shop!

Soul Sunday Tokai Aloe Facial Mist
Attention aloe lovers, this spectacular mist is for you. The simple combination of aloe and South African lavender essential oil adds moisture to the skin, while combatting blemishes and calming the skin. Plus, it smells insanely good. There is something about the lavender essential oil in this toner that just smells brighter and more vibrant.

Jacqueline Evans Rooibos Facial Toner
Rose water and aloe are a smashing combination, but infuse that with anti-oxidant rich Rooibos tea? Now you’ve got something special. Delicately scented with sandalwood, rose, and geranium, this toner hydrates, soothes, and fights free radicals. It is a spectacular option for all skin types, especially those looking to fight pesky fine lines!
